Social Impact and Human Rights concerns the impact on people. Our team focuses on the policies and actions of the bank aimed at the prevention of harming people and the creation of positive impact on people. We are preparing for the step up from voluntary, strategy led ambitions under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to implementing new, binding legislation: namely the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (‘CS3D’).
Part of this preparation entails analysing the bank’s current sustainability due diligence efforts and assess what is needed to comply with the upcoming legislation. The Sustainability Centre of Excellence has the knowledge and mandate to guide the bank in how to tackle this task, ensure compliance as well as enable positive impact on the ground while making the due diligence effort as straightforward, efficient and effective as possible.
Your job
This role entails working together with different disciplines, ranging from Legal to Biodiversity. You are able to learn from and listen to the experiences of fellow experts, stakeholders and colleagues as well as be creative in coming up with new concepts.
Within the Social Impact & Human Rights team, you will contribute to:
- Building expertise on new sustainability due diligence legislation;
- Designing innovative and efficient ways to tackle and implement this legislation;
- Helping determine the bank’s approach and level of ambition;
- Monitoring regulatory developments and contribute to reports for the Regulatory Committee;
- Drafting advice for a wide variety of stakeholders through applying abstract legal requirements to business practices;
Building an external network on sustainability due diligence as cooperation with other financial institutions as well as NGO’s on this topic is essential.
Working environment
The SCE is a department with approximately 50 FTEs and operates on a global level. The SCE is managed by the CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) and is divided into sub-departments with a specialist focus (Climate, Social, Circular & Biodiversity) and a broad focus (Reporting, Regulations & Stakeholder Management and Business Insight). You will work in the Human Rights team, consisting of 7 FTEs and will report to the MT member that is also responsible for the Inclusive Banking team.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with formal knowledge and experience in the field of Human Rights, familiar with client due diligence from a human rights point of view. You understand the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and their effect on and role in the bank.
- Education: HBO or University Degree, preferably in International Law or other Human Rights related areas
- You will be contributing to the design of sustainability due diligence within the bank: it is preferable to have experience with conducting and/or designing due diligence within a bank or similar organisation
- Experience with external stakeholder management
- Experience: a minimum of 3-7 years’ experience in Human Rights, Sustainability, Stakeholder management, Legal
- Competences: analytical, result oriented, structured, innovative, excellent communication skills.
- Personal: purpose driven, passion to make impact for sustainability and human rights, leadership skills, team player.
